For decades the premier western singing group has musically painted unforgettable images and stories of horses\, cattle\, cowboys\, “night herds”\, tall timber\, cool water\, canyons and prairies. Their original songs like “Tumbling Tumbleweeds”\, “Cool Water” and “Ghost Riders in the Sky” are classics forever entwined into the lore and mystique of the American West. Both “Tumbleweeds” and “Cool Water” have been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. \nThe current group’s configuration Tommy Nallie\, Ken Lattimore\, Dusty Rogers\, John Fullerton\, Paul Elliott and Chuck Ervin is part of a continuous and uninterrupted 85 year existence in which they have accumulated more coveted honors and awards than anyone in Western music. The group has been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame\, the Western Music Association Hall of Fame and the National Cowboy Hall of Fame among others. The Smithsonian Institute named them as “National Treasures”. True West magazine named them the Best of the West in 2015 and again in 2016.

This program develops early literacy and school readiness skills in young children. A typical session basic  Mother Goose on the Loose session incorporates the most effective practices for using books with young children\, the LISTEN\, LIKE\, LEARN approach for teaching music\, and activities designed to encourage brain-based learning. It lasts 30 minutes but can be formatted to fit the needs of individual groups; designed to encourage participants to listen\, to like\, and to learn during storytime. Originally designed for children from birth to age two accompanied by parents or caregivers in a library setting\, the basic program has been successfully adapted for specific audiences and has been presented in many settings.

Even if your young child can’t follow the narrative of a story as closely as an older child\, exposure to story time from an early age builds the foundation of literacy. Preschool-age children explore an interest in written communication\, while pre-kindergarteners can recognize many letters and connect them with spoken sounds. Toddlers develop early literacy skills too\, with unique phonics rules that help them interact with letters and words and learn rapidly. Regular storytime helps young children build a foundation for literacy they can use when they reach the age that children traditionally learn how to read. Readers of any age are familiar with that feeling of getting lost in an engaging story\, and toddlers and preschoolers are no different.
