ART IN THE PARK
Friday, Oct 20th beginning at 2pm & Saturday, Oct 21st beginning at 8am. The Artesia Arts Council is excited to announce that the 48th Annual Art in the Park will be two days at Jaycee Park! They will have fine arts and craft vendors, food trucks, and live music. The AHS Band will be hosting their annual cake walk on Saturday, October 21. If you are interested in being a vendor or having your Food Truck at the event, please contact the Artesia Arts Council on their Facebook page.

7TH GRADE NM HISTORY CHIHUAHUAN DESERT PROJECT
Donations needed-The 7th graders at Zia Intermediate School are currently working on a project-based learning lesson about the Chihuahuan Desert and have incorporated survival skills into the project. They are asking for donations for 270 7th graders for survival/hiking supplies. They have backpacks which have been donated but are looking for items to put into them such as kid-friendly binoculars, ChapStick, sunscreen, hat, water bottles, and a compass. They hope to end this project by going on a field trip Nov 10, and getting to use these items. HALLOWEEN HAUNTED HOUSE- SPONSORS NEEDED
Critter Care Center, with help from Artesia Rotary and the AHS Volleyball & Swim Team will be throwing their annual Halloween Haunted house. This year will be more extravagant with a large investment by Critter Care Center and Tech Noir LLC! The haunted house will be held at the old Ken-Mar building, 302 W. ECLIPSE EVENT AT NMSU AG SCIENCE CENTER IN ARTESIA
Saturday, Oct 14, 2023 Dr Shetye and her students will be conducting research at the NMSU Agricultural Science Center at Artesia during the eclipse. Her research will include launching some high-altitude scientific balloons that carry sensors to measure how the Earth’s atmosphere is changing when the eclipse happens.  Dr Shetye says, “these changes can possibly affect pets and bird behavior. The Agricultural Science Center at Artesia, 67 E Four Dinkus Rd, will be open to the public from 9am-12pm for eclipse viewing.  You can see the scientific balloons being launched and there will be limited sunspotter and solar eclipse glasses as well as some binoculars that can be used to view the eclipse.  The peak time for totality will be at 10:40am lasting about 4 minutes.  There will be limited seating, please bring a camp/folding chair if you would like to sit.  If you are an individual with a disability who is in need of an auxiliary aid or service to participate, please contact the Ag Science Center at (575) 748-1228. Preschool Story Time (Tuesdays 10:00)
For preschoolers ages 3-5 and their families. Includes crafts, reading aloud, alphabet awareness and early literacy, fun science facts, music, and more, all organized around a different fun theme each week.
Mother Goose on the Loose (Wednesdays 10:00)
For infants through age 3 and their families. This is a fast-paced program designed to keep babies engaged with rhymes, songs, short books, puppets, baby games, and more.
Toddler Move & Play (Thursdays 11:00)
For toddlers ages 1-3 and their families. Music, creative movement, group activities, play with age-appropriate toys, and social time.
STEAM After School (Thursdays 4:00)
For students in grades K-6th and their families. Each week we offer a different fun activity to put STEAM techniques and ideas to work, from LEGO building to paper circuits, slime lab, and more.
Teen Tuesdays (Tuesdays 3:30)

Teen Horror Diorama (October 13 @ 4:00)
Make a Horror Diorama. Join us for a session of ideas and techniques, then go create your best horror scene in your diorama. Bring it back to the library by October 27th for judging. Grades 7-12 
Noon Book Discussion Group (October 16 @ Noon)
One of our favorite things to do around the library is share and discuss books. Come join in the discussion at our Noon Book Discussion Group which meets on the third Monday of the month. This month we are discussing “When All Is Said” by Anne Griffin. Books are available at the library and on Libby.
Crafts for Adults: Glass Bottle Scarecrows (October 19 @ 3:30)
We will turn ordinary glass bottles into cute fall decoration scarecrows using straw, paint, burlap, ribbon, sunflowers and fall leaves. Ages 18+.  
Art in the Park (October 20 & 21)

Kitch Lit Book Discussion Group (October 26 @ 11:30)
Our foody book discussion group meets on the last Thursday of the month. Books for this group are always somehow related to food. This month we are discussing “Sugar and Salt” by Susan Wiggs. Books are available at the library and on Libby.
Halloween Fun! (October 28 @ 3:00)
Come on down to the library for some Halloween Fun! We will have a popcorn bar, games, prizes, crafts, coloring, and loads of fun. Everyone in costume can signed up for prize drawings. All ages.
